He was arrested on 22 September 2013 while he was covering a protest in Ismailia city. He was then transferred to the Public Prosecution and interrogated on charges of joining a terrorist group, protesting without a notice, inciting riots and the overthrow of the ruling regime in the case known in the media as “Fondness for Guevara”. He had been held in pretrial detention until the Ismailia Court ordered, on 2 April 2019, his acquittal of the charges attributed to him.
Thereafter, the reporter had been subjected to enforced disappearance until he appeared on 20 July 2019 before the State Security Prosecution, which interrogated him in connection with Case No. 800 of 2019 State Security on charges of joining a terrorist group. He was then ordered to be held on remand pending the case.
