The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) welcomed the decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution yesterday to release student Karim Hussein Rabie ensuring his place of residence pending case no. 718 of 2018, known in the media as the protest against the increase in subway tickets prices, after nearly two months in pre-trial detention.

On 11 May 2018, security forces arrested Karim and others randomly from inside Maadi Metro station and some other stations against the backdrop of protests that erupted after the decision of the Egyptian authorities to raise the prices of subway tickets by 250%, the highest increase since the operation of the subway, he disappeared and then appeared in the Supreme State Security Prosecution on May 16, 2018, he was interrogated him on charges of participating with a terrorist group in achieving its objectives and demonstrating without notice.

ANHRI demands the Public Prosecution to implement the law on all the defendants detained pending the same case and issue a decision to release them, as the other defendants who were released, and to put an end to dealing with the double standards policy with peaceful protesters and to abusing them to prevent peaceful protests.
